In 2020, she was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a severe type of brain cancer, and used her platform to discuss cancer research. Kelly Powers, a Fox News commentator and podiatric surgeon who provided health advice and shared her own cancer experiences, passed away on Sunday at her home in Colts Neck, N.J. She was 45 years old. Her mother, Joan Powers, stated that the cause was brain cancer. Dr. Powers served as a medical expert on Fox Business and Fox News, contributing to programs like “Fox & Friends” and “Red Eye” during the 2010s. In 2018, she underwent emergency surgery after doctors discovered fluid surrounding her heart, which marked the beginning of a long period filled with serious health challenges. In July 2020, she experienced a seizure and was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a type of aggressive brain cancer. Dr. Powers underwent three brain surgeries and was treated with chemotherapy, radiation, and immunotherapy, according to her family’s GoFundMe page. Unfortunately, the cancer recurred, and a new tumor was discovered in her brain earlier this year. Kelly Ann Powers was born in Yonkers, N.Y., on May 13, 1979, to Joan Marie Powers and Joseph Powers. Her mother described her as a “well-rounded” and “happy” individual during her childhood who was always active. She studied at Baruch College in New York before continuing her education at the New York College of Podiatric Medicine. She earned a master’s degree from the University of San Francisco and completed her residencies at Georgetown and Boston Universities. Alongside her surgical career, Dr. Powers started making appearances on television news shows early on to talk about medical advancements and offer health tips. She became a fixture on Fox News, where she provided viewers with practical health advice, including dietary options and tips for managing body aches. At the peak of the coronavirus pandemic, she appeared on Fox Business to discuss the virus and vaccine progress. Following her diagnosis in 2020, Dr. Powers started sharing her health journey on social media and discussed it on television. She referred to herself as the “unluckiest lucky girl” since her cancer was detected early. Despite her health struggles, Dr. Powers and her husband, Steven Doll, wished to have a baby. However, her cardiologist advised her against carrying a child, so they opted for a surrogate, she mentioned in a 2023 iHeart Radio interview. Her son, Bennett, was born in 2021 while she continued her treatments. Her parents, husband, and son are left behind after her passing. Throughout this period, Dr. Powers utilized her platform to discuss brain cancer research and gather funds for medical nonprofits and organizations. “This terrible disease must be stopped, and we all need to join the fight against cancer in all its forms,” she expressed on Instagram in June.
